Frequently Asked Questions
What is trauma-informed coaching?
Trauma-informed coaching recognises that difficult or overwhelming experiences can continue to influence the way we think, feel and respond. It prioritises choice, collaboration and a sense of safety, while keeping the work focused on what you would like to be different. You remain in control of what you share and the pace at which we work.
Will I need to talk about or relive past experiences?
You decide what you would like to share and when. You're not expected to describe past experiences in depth or talk about them at length. Some approaches may involve sharing a brief outline of an experience and how it affects you now, but the work will always be paced around you. Meaningful change is possible without reliving the past.
What happens during a session?
Each session begins with what feels most important to you at the time. We’ll talk about what you would like to be different and may draw upon conversation, thoughtful questions, NLP or EMN as appropriate. Every session is shaped around you, rather than following a fixed programme.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no set number of sessions. Some people notice the changes they want after only a few, while others choose to work together for longer. Sessions can be booked one at a time, so you can decide what feels right for you as we go.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can take place face to face in my private coaching space in Lowestoft, or online. We can discuss which option would suit you best during your Discovery Call.
How much do sessions cost?
Session fees will be confirmed during your free Discovery Call, before you decide whether you would like to book.
What is a Discovery Call?
A Discovery Call is a free, relaxed and no-obligation conversation. It gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you here, ask any questions and decide whether working together feels right for you.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share during our sessions is treated as confidential. In exceptional circumstances, if I believe that you or someone else may be at risk of harm, I may need to contact an appropriate service. Wherever possible, I would discuss this with you first.
I also attend regular professional supervision to support best practice and ensure I provide the best service I can. Confidentiality continues to be respected throughout that process.
What happens if I need to cancel or rearrange?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, and missed appointments, will usually be charged at the full session fee. I understand that genuine illness and emergencies happen, and these circumstances will be considered individually.
If you need to cancel or rearrange a free Discovery Call, please give as much notice as possible. If a call is missed without notice, I may not be able to offer another appointment.
Is coaching the same as counselling or psychotherapy?
I offer trauma-informed health and wellbeing coaching rather than counselling or psychotherapy. Our work focuses on understanding what may be influencing you now and facilitating the changes you would like to make. If another kind of support appears more appropriate, we can discuss this openly during your Discovery Call or at any point in our work.
